Building 1981 Bristol 29.9 hull #188, Spirit now Gryphon IV
Our B29.9 was the last boat owned by the now defunct Bristol Yachts Company. She was taken back in trade just before they went bankrupt. We purchased her (as Gryphon IV) from Jan and Rob Fancher. They bought the boat from the liquidators in 1999. Although she had been on the hard for several seasons, the Fancher's brought this fine sailboat back to life, lavished her with TLC and made many upgrades. Shorthy after we bought Gryphon, we were delighted to hear from Pat and Mike Orsatti who saw our webpage. They were the boats original owner's! The Orsatti's enjoyed her (as Spirit) for 17 seasons from their home port in Stamford, Ct. She even made an extended trip to Maine one summer. In 1998, the Orsatti's traded Spirit back to Bristol Yachts and Clint Pearson. This was part of a deal for a new Bristol 38.8 (also to be named Spirit). The Orsatti's B38.8 was the final boat built by Bristol Yachts! Mike has very kindly shared these pictures taken of our B29.9 as she was being created. The Orsatti's had visited the Bristol yard on weekends to record progress. Having these photos is very special. A very nice surprise to get them. Thanks Pat and Mike!
